Best of the KM Cafe - A Recap of the April 29th Symposium at Bentley U.

Friday, May 7, 2010 at 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.  Rebecca’s at Reservoir Place, Trapelo Road, Waltham.

TOPIC:  We don’t know what we will know after the series of roundtable discussions on April 29th but from the following six topics, each being debated and discussed three times, we expected some novel or new ideas:

•    Avoid future crisis – How can business and application process documentation be kept up-to-date and in sync?
•    Social networking redo – How can a failed collaboration implementation be successfully re-launched?
•    Clinical practice experts online – What’s the next step in a collaboration infrastructure?
•    Taxonomies – How can they improve enterprise search?
•    “Library/information management” and “knowledge management” – Are these professionals’ competencies alike? and Do titles matter?
•    Records management, knowledge management, and information management – Are they converging or diverging?

Come to share what you learned at the meeting OR learn what you missed.

KM Gurus - Who are they & What Guidance do they Provide for You?

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Rebecca’s at Reservoir Place, Trapelo Road, Waltham.

TOPIC:  We just enjoyed a great roundtable discussion in February at which the group shared career path stories about what led each attendee to a focus on knowledge management activities. Learning what influences and interests in the workplace pointed individuals toward KM revealed a lot about how we all grow into and within our chosen professions, regardless of the initial degree or job title.

In the next meeting we want you to share stories about the people who have inspired you to have an interest in KM. This can be people whose writings you read, presentations you have experienced, role models in school or the workplace, or individuals outside of the work arena that provided a spark. With a goal of learning how KM gets traction and mind-share, as well as collecting specific anecdotes on guiding lessons, we’ll open the roundtable conversation with stories of the people who inspire us.

The Learning Knowledge Connection

Friday, April 4, 2008 at 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Rebecca’s at Reservoir Place, Trapelo Road, Waltham.

It is about a UK (British Library) study on a correlation with and possible impact on the heavy use of online content reading comprehension and analytical competencies. This has potential implications for how much understanding a younger population may accrue from the barrage of electronic content to which they have access. We will discuss how electronic media, with all of the 2.0 tools we are adopting, may have a significant down side when it comes to leveraging electronic knowledge assets.
