CSHALS will take place February 24-26, 2010 in Cambridge/Boston, MA

The Conference on Semantics in Healthcare and Life Sciences (CSHALS) the official conference of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) returns for its third year as the premier annual event focused on the use of semantic technologies in the pharmaceutical industry, including hospitals/healthcare institutions and academic research labs.

CSHALS is a conference focused on specific applications of semantic technologies, including Semantic Web, to show where advances have been made, determine what the current needs are, and anticipate where the field is headed in order to prepare and advance with the field. The conference is organized along specific topics and moderated to stimulate interactive discussions around sets of key questions determined in advance with input from registered attendees.

SPEAKERS: Simon Trussler,  Senior VP, and Anna Gilpatric, Content Coordinator - Health Dialog

TOPIC: In the current economy it’s more important than ever to get the highest ROI possible on your knowledge management endeavors. This presentation will show how Health Dialog is using SharePoint for low-investment, high-impact knowledge management, as well as identifying out-of-the-box features and simple add-ons any company can use to get the highest return on its  KM investment.

BIOGRAPHY: Simon Trussler has led Health Dialog University, the firm’s training and knowledge management function, since early 2007, and also works in the international business development group.  Prior to joining Health Dialog, he led the global KM function for Boston Consulting Group for 12 years, and was a previously a partner in BCG’s consulting practice in Europe.  He has MA and PhD degrees from Cambridge University.

Anna Gilpatric is the Content Coordinator Health Dialog University. Anna graduated from the University of Maine in 2008 with a B.A. in English and a minor in Business Administration. In 2008 Anna started working for Health Dialog University, coordinating their knowledge management initiatives. Anna is also the company’s designated internal SharePoint trainer.

Selected Views into Clinical KM at Partners Healthcare

SPEAKER: Dan Bogaty, Project Specialist and Debora Goldman, Team Lead,  Clinical KM at Partners Healthcare

TOPIC: Dan Bogaty and Debora Goldman will give the Forum a view of their professional roles at Partners including where Clinical KM fits in the organization. Their presentation will share the history of how Clinical KM started at Partners Healthcare and where it is used. The orientation of the group with its focus on collaboration, content and services will be illustrated with a case study or two on how they apply their model. A word or two on tools being used will round out the afternoon topic.

BIOGRAPHIES: Dan Bogaty is a Project Specialist in the Knowledge Management Application Development group at Partners Healthcare. In this role, he supports the evolving needs of Partners’ Clinical KM group with current and potential tools, applications, and processes. Prior to joining Partners, Dan held a variety of information system roles within industry, academic and government settings, most often focused on healthcare-related systems, and often involving knowledge acquisition, representation and management.

Debora Goldman is the Team Lead for the Clinical Knowledge Management Team at Partners Healthcare, focusing on the delivery of enterprise clinical content. Team responsibilities include the design and enhancement of content editors and content management tools. Debora is a registered pharmacist, holds an MBA, and has completed a residency in Drug Information at Yale New Haven Hospital, CT. Debora has also filled coordinator and clinical roles within insurance, managed care, hospitals and retail pharmacies.

Managing Evidence at the Speed of Change: The Partners Healthcare Knowledge Management Approach

Speaker: Cathyann Harris, Project Lead, Partners Heath Care
Program Description: This presentation will outline and focus on Partners Health Care (a) current knowledge management goals, especially reduction in the cost of acquisition of knowledge and speed of knowledge translation and learning in the organization, and (b) strategic, governance and infrastructure approaches to support the ongoing acquisition, design, validation, implementation and maintenance of clinical decision support knowledge.

Biography: Cathyann Harris, Project lead, at Partners Health Care, Clinical Informatics Research and Development leads projects and initiatives supporting a multitude of Knowledge Management efforts since 2003. Prior to joining Knowledge Management in 2003 she has lead projects and teams managing a variety of efforts focused on content management and portal solutions that support clinical quality and safety across multiple clinical disciplines since 2000. Her education and background is in both Health Sciences and IT at University of Southern Maine and Boston College respectively, and has a total of 11 years experience in direct clinical experience and health care IT.
