How Text Analytics, BI and Data Mining/Text Mining Contribute to KM

TOPIC:  Our discussion will focus on tools and techniques employed by participants for gaining new insights by extracting, manipulating and analyzing all types of information resources at their disposal. Here are some simple definitions to begin the discussion:

•    Text Analytics: Text Data that helps track business trends; Records that describe part of a larger domain sophisticated version of data.
•    BI (Business Intelligence):Technologies that gather, store, analyze and make accessible data to help enterprise users make better business decisions. It includes decision support, query and reporting, online analytical processing, statistical analysis, forecasting and data mining. Viewed by some as the umbrella for other technologies including text mining and analytics.
•    Data Mining: Computerized process for extracting content from structured repositories
•    Text Mining: Extracting interesting and non-trivial information and knowledge from unstructured text. Interdisciplinary field that draws upon: Information retrieval, Data mining, Machine learning, Statistics, Fact extraction, Computational linguistics
